ABOUT THE SHOW:
In 1619, 20 enslaved Africans arrived in Point Comfort, VA. The 400-year journey that followed would change a nation and the world. Using various musical forms including hip-hop, jazz and blues, this musical theater production commemorates the struggle for equality and celebrates the story of America's African sons and daughters.

The multi-disciplinary theater experience is expressed through three modern characters in a series of performance pieces that will leave audiences both inspired and challenged. 1619 features a dynamic cast of singers, actors, spoken word artists and dancers who reflect on the past while tackling critical contemporary social issues. With an appeal for all ages, this production reminds us that on the other side of the trial lies greatness.

On Sunday, February 1, join Lake County Forest Preserve for Origin Stories, featuring a performance and lecture from playwright, Ted Williams III. College of Lake County’s 41st annual Salute to Gospel Music invites community members to celebrate the uplifting sounds of gospel music with headliner by visionary artist, entrepreneur and faith leader, Charles Jenkins.
As a celebrated gospel hitmaker, Jenkins has crafted several uplifting anthems, including “War” and “Awesome,” which have earned 23 Billboard #1 singles, nine Stellar Awards and Grammy recognition. His music has also graced global stages from President Obama’s Inaugural Ball to Jay-Z’s Made in America Festival.
